Making faces
Crying
Micah really doesn't cry too often unless he is just having a bad day...
Normally it is a hungry cry if I am not fast enough to whip out the milk, or else it is a cry that stems from being too tired and not being put in a position he can fall asleep (the way he wants)... but whatever cry it is, it always still seems to be cute...
But lately we have noticed some new cries. I know he is only 9 weeks, but I have figured out the sound of most of his cries, the hungry one vs. the tired one for example...So, most of the other ones are just fake, the main difference seems to be how long he is willing to keep it going vs. how long we can go without feeling so sorry for him that we pick him up. Last night, though, there was a new tired one. I think it was the "I'm so tired I can even open my mouth for the cry" so it was a much deeper and more pitiful sounding cry. And even now, it's sort of a whimpering one that seems to say "I really don't want to be in this swing but I do not have the energy to really cry all out and let you know that, so I will just whimper a little here and there to let you know I am not content".
HAHA...this is what my day consists of: feeding, playing, changing the diaper, figuring out the cry, getting a little work done when he eventually falls asleep, then starting the cycle over again...makes me laugh to think about it that way!

It's the little things...
It's funny how life changes once you have a kid, especially the things that you get excited for...
I still get excited to coach volleyball and play volleyball. I still look forward to working out and spending time with my husband. I am excited to get back to hiking and camping...
BUT, I get much more excited about the simple things in life these days, like Micah having a good poop after a few days without one...
Or what about a really good burp after a feeding...
...or a big smile that reveals his dimple...
...or watching him just chill, wide awake and entertaining himself...
...or an extra half hour of sleep at night between feedings...
...or Micah fitting into an outfit that used to be too big for him...
...some are silly, some are small, some seem big, but all these and more get me so much more excited now as a mother (of the most beautiful baby boy!) than I could have thought...

Milestones
The past couple of weeks have been full of milestones in the life of Micah David Carroll...
Micah has started to be very interactive, especially right after he has a meal...I keep trying to catch one of his cute smiles, but have not had luck...he is also starting to look a little more like his cousin, proof he is definitely a Carroll!

We are trying to have Micah sleep more on his belly and side during the day so he doesn't get a flat spot on the back of his head...and he is so cute when he sleeps!

And speaking of sleep time, I think Micah might be like me when I was a kid...get me tired enough and I will sleep anywhere at any time...

We also had some very nice weather for a couple of days and got to take Micah on his very first walk in his stroller outside!! He wasn't having it at first, but then we got the pacifier in and walked for a few minutes to help him be OK with it...and there it came, sleepy time again!

Micah also got his first shots, and I think he did better than I do when I have to get shots...he screamed for just a few seconds, got his bandaids and he was fine! He was a little extra sleepy for the afternoon, but overall I think he did amazing!

And finally, just today, the day after his first shots, Micah feel asleep for the first time in his swing without having to be swaddled! He stayed awake for a long time staring off into space thinking about who knows what, then fell asleep for a while, then woke up and started staring again...he is so stinkin' adorable!!

Awake Time
It's crazy how fast babies grow up. Seriously! In one day Micah decided that he was going to stay awake more, and he was going to be ok with entertaining himself! We laid him down on the floor on a pillow on his stomach and he slept for a little while, but soon enough he had rolled himself over onto his back and was wide awake...and he just stayed there! I don't know what all he could see because he didn't roll under the play gym, and we have high ceilings, but he was just gazing at the world and he was fine with this for almost an hour!!! All this change in one day! Not like he gradually worked up to the hour, he just decided he was ready for more independence and he went for it.AND, he wasn't wrapped up! Normally if his arms are not confined close to his body then he cannot handle himself and begins screaming. But, his arms were free and moving, his legs were kicking wildly as if he were riding a bike, and he was so content it was amazing to watch! I think he got more exercise yesterday as he rode his air bike than I have gotten in the past 2 months!
LOVE that boy!!!

The Cry
It is a little weird to me that Micah is just turning 8 weeks tomorrow and yet I feel like we are already seeing his personality, as well as just knowing what he is going to look like and how cute he is going to be! I know they develop young, some parts maybe even innately, but to watch it is crazy cool!
I think he is going to have a pretty relaxed personality, I think he is going to be pretty independent, I think he is going to be an explorer, and of course he is going to be very charming!! For the most part, he is pretty easy-going, he loves music, he can stare outside for as long as he can stay awake, and he likes to face the world when being held...
Physically, he is going to have Matt's hairline, he is going to have my long tongue, he is going to be beautiful with a gorgeous smile and great eyes!! He is also showing us that he is going to be just as gassy as his dad!!
